Thin stone in lightweight construction
Weight reduction and formability for project-specific solutions with stone are the main focus here. Stone thicknesses between 0.6 and 2.0 mm are usually processed. Honeycomb structures, aluminum and GRP panels and many more are possible as carrier material. In this product area, which requires intensive consultation, we support our customers with a highly specialized partner with many years of experience in the aviation industry.
Lightweight construction I
Thin stones in combination with lightweight carrier materials offer a wide range of possibilities according to the project-specific requirements.
There are many variations available as carrier material. The sandwich panel shown in Figure 1 is suitable for back-ventilated facades, functional ceilings, wall coverings and can be designed in fire protection classes A2 and B1. The carrier material shown in Figures 2 and 3 is also suitable for walls, ceilings and facades. Thanks to its open porosity, it can be filled with gas or liquid and thus offers good damping qualities.
The mirror foil between stone veneer and aluminum honeycomb in Figure 4 primarily offers additional design possibilities and can also be processed in a version with gold leaf.
Lightweight construction II
Thin stones in combination with the carrier materials shown here offer a wide range of possibilities from sound reflecting/absorbing to fire protection classes A2 and B1.
In principle, our entire range of thin stones is suitable for this type of application. The stone thickness can be freely selected between 0.5 and 3.0 mm according to the requirements. Balsa wood as a carrier material offers extremely high specific stiffness and strength, good fire behavior and excellent fatigue resistance.
Vermiculite is an iron-aluminum-magnesium-silicate and free of cement and gypsum components as well as asbestos or silicate fibers. It meets the fire protection standard A2 (non-combustible) and does not release smoke or toxic gases.
Blown glass recycling granulate can be sound-absorbing or reflective. Optionally, fire protection classes A2 or B1 can be fulfilled.
Balsa plywood is light, strong and resistant to boiling water and, in combination with various surface layers, offers a wide range of applications.
Lightweight construction III
The combination of thin stone and lightweight carrier materials such as honeycombs made of aluminum offer interesting solutions for a wide range of applications.
In principle, our entire range of thin stones is suitable for this type of application. The stone thickness can be freely selected between 0.5 and 3.0 mm according to the requirements. Aluminium honeycombs as carrier material allow the production of curved elements. The combination of weight saving and stability amazes again and again. Especially for curved applications, a honeycomb structure made of aluminium is perfectly suited.
Lightweight construction IX
Thin stones in combination with paper-based honeycombs offer interesting possibilities with maximum weight reduction.
In principle, our entire range of thin stones is suitable for this type of application. The stone thickness can be freely selected between 0.5 and 3.0 mm according to the requirements. Paper-based honeycombs are unique as a carrier material when every gram counts in weight saving. Our partner uses this combination of stone and this paper-based carrier material mainly as floors in private jets. Just think of the requirements that have to be met! It couldn't be easier in combination with stone and at the same time extremely high stability!
Lightweight construction X
Thin stones in one-sided GRP lamination as another possible combination for lightweight construction.
In principle, our entire range of thin stones is suitable for this type of application. The stone thickness can be freely selected between 0.5 and 3.0 mm according to the requirements. GRP laminations as carrier material belong to the standard solutions and are possible up to the maximum stone format of 3100 x 1600mm.
One of our last projects with this application in combination with thin stone+glass elements were lift cabins for the headquarters of a large Swiss bank. More about this hopefully soon on our project page.
